it is finished
the dirt is red.
bright red, soggy
with His blood and sweat and tears.
can’t you see? can’t you see
you foolish people crucifying Him, can’t you see
Who you are killing?
an innocent man.
“king of the Jews”.
King of the world.
He breathes a ragged breath,
stares up
into the blackening, lonely sky.
“it is finished.”
and then
He breathes
no more.
