It Is Finished

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (John 19:30)

it is finished

the dirt is red.

bright red, soggy

with His blood and sweat and tears.

can’t you see? can’t you see

you foolish people crucifying Him, can’t you see

Who you are killing?

an innocent man.

“king of the Jews”.

King of the world.

He breathes a ragged breath,

stares up

into the blackening, lonely sky.

“it is finished.”

and then

He breathes

no more.

Good Friday is only Good because by dying, Christ gave us life. Soli Deo Gloria!

  1. Amen! Only the wisdom of God could have ordained that the worst crime humanity could ever commit would be the source of our salvation. <3

  3. P.S. And I've been meaning to comment on a post since about December but Life Happened... sorry to have said nothing since you reviewed my story!

    1. That is Quite Alright! Life has an unfortunate habit of doing that… I’m glad to see you’ve resurfaced! :P

And Happy Easter to you, as well. He is Risen indeed!

    2. Yes, life has calmed down again now... I also have less mandatory music practice which I think is a good thing...? Anyway, I'm enjoying leaving comments again.

I was wondering, by the way, how "short" does the short story have to be for your review? (I have done it before so I wasn't going to submit another for a while anyway ;D)

    3. Ah, that’s good! It’s always good to get more time back :)

It can be any length, as long as it’s not a full-length novel! I have gotten rather unfortunately behind (I’ve got three other submissions to do) because, again, Life, but I’d welcome more for sure!

    4. Ah, that makes sense... well, I'll see how long it ends up being xD. It may well be too long, but again, inspiration might run out!
